Europe Day 2010 events - EU Information Classes at Local Schools (03/05/2010)
In the run-up to Spring Day in Europe and Europe Day, The European Parliament Office in Malta organised a series of information classes on the significance of Europe Day at Chiswick House Primary School in Kappara, Malta. EPIO Head Julian Vassallo and Press Officer Massimo Farrugia addressed three information sessions targeting a total of 180 pupils aged 8 to 9, from six classes in Junior 4 and Junior 5.
During the sessions, each lasting around 35 minutes, pupils were given a brief introduction on Europe day and shown a locally-produced animated video featuring information on the origins of the European Union since the World Wars financed by the Management Partnership Agreement. It also tries to explain how certain systems of today, such as written laws and the importance of communication, started out in ancient civilisations.
The input stimulated very lively Q & A sessions like: "Why did the First World War start? Why did the people of Europe have to fight instead of deciding to unite in the first place? If Malta passed a law, would it apply to all of Europe?"
