    • EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT REGIONAL SEMINAR : Europe's New Mediterranean Reality: Migration and Asylum in Malta, Greece and Cyprus : On July 1 and 2, the first in a series of three regional seminars on Europe's New Mediterranean Reality: Migration and Asylum in Malta, Greece and Cyprus, kicked-off in Valletta
    • Lux Prize finalist film screenings in Valletta - May 2011 : The Valletta EPIO held the screenings of the three finalist films of the Lux Prize 2010 last week on three successive evenings (24, 25, 26 May). The film nights brought to a close the Europe Day 2011 events in Malta.
    • President of Malta presides over Europe Day activities organised by the European Parliament Office in Malta and the European Commission Representation in Malta. : Europe Day in Malta was celebrated with marching bands, young Maltese challenging sitting politicians on European themes, and hundreds of children polishing their European geography on a massive interactive map on Valletta's main square. The activities organised by the European Parliament Information Office in Malta and the European Commission Representation followed the traditional European Parliament Football Festival organised in Gozo last week and coincided with similar activities across Europe.
    • Arab world conflicts lend special meaning to Europe Day : Europe Day 2011 kicked off at the main Gozo Stadium in Xewkija.

Il-President Buzek ntlaqa' f'Malta mill-iSpeaker tal-Parlament Malti Michael Frendo. Mal-wasla tiegħu f'Malta, Buzek żar lill-President tar-Repubblika George Abela, eżatt qabel indirizza lill-Kumitat tal-Affarijiet Barranin tal-Parlament Malti.
    • Buzek to pay official visit to Malta 24-25 January 2011 : The President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek will pay an official visit to Malta on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 January 2011.

    • Buzek on the death of Guido de Marco, former President of Malta : The President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, sends his condolences to the Maltese people and the family and friends of Guido de Marco, President of Malta from 1999 to 2004 who died on Thursday morning (12 August 2010). "Guido de Marco has led Malta into the European Union and was a highly respected politician and statesman. My thoughts are with the family of Guido de Marco and with the Maltese people. Guido de Marco embodied the best qualities of a modern politician: he was a true patriot who loved his country and his people and he was an open-minded and committed European statesman who was deeply respected all over Europe."
    • Programme of traineeships for people with disabilities : The European Parliament promotes equality of opportunity and encourages applications from women and men with disabilities for its traineeship programmes. In 2006, as a positive action measure, the European Parliament launched a specific traineeship programme for people with disabilities.
    • The President of the European Parliament expected to address the Maltese Parliament later this year. : In a letter sent to Speaker Michael Frendo, the EP President said he wished to use his visit to Malta on 29 November 2010 to speak to Maltese Members of Parliament about those rights and obligations which national parliaments have under the Treaty of Lisbon. Mr Buzek said he wished to strengthen the relationship and coordination between the Maltese House of Representatives and the European Parliament.
    • A Selection of Films by Alain Resnais : On the 8th, 13th and 15th July 2010, the European Parliament Office in Malta in collaboration with the French Embassy in Malta organised screenings of French Films by renowned director Alain Resnais. The screenings, which were open to the general public, were the following: Mon Oncle d'Amérique, On Connaît la Chanson and Hiroshima Mon Amour. All films were preceded by a short documentary by the same director.
    • Europe Day 2010 events - Europe Day 2010 activities in Gozo (10/05/2010) : In collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo and the Gozo College, the European Commission Representation in Malta and the European Parliament Office in Malta organised a number of activities to celebrate Europe Day in Gozo, Malta's sister island. These included musical and artistic performances, re-enactments by College students and artistic performances. These activities were also a prelude to the Lejlet Lapsi - Notte Gozitana introductory celebrations which will feature a number of artistic, cultural and folkloristic performances. Maltese European Commissioner John Dalli and The Hon. Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo delivered speeches during the events. MEP Louis GRECH (S&D, MT) was also scheduled to speak at the event but had to cancel due to important Labour Party activities.
    • Europe Day 2010 events - Europe Day Sports Festival 2010(08/05/2010) : The fourth edition of the European Parliament Sports Festival took place at De La Salle College, Birgu. Some three hundred participants, including Under-14 Football Nurseries from all over Malta and Gozo and children from other philanthropic organisations, this year got a chance to try out a number of sporting disciplines including football, hockey, net ball, volley ball, basket ball and baseball. Footballs printed with the EP logo were distributed to all participating children by Dr Julian Vassallo, Head of the European Parliament Office in Malta, MEP Simon BUSUTTIL (EPP, MT) and Mr William Martin, Acting Head of the European Commission Representation in Malta.
    • Europe Day 2010 events - Activities at St.George's Square Valletta (07/05/2010) : The main square of Valletta was transformed into a colourful fun-for-all area with numerous interactive and educational games and a giant map of Europe. Various animators engaged children and adults alike to participate in edutainment-oriented activities to mark the 60th anniversary of the declaration of Robert Schuman as well as the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.
    • Europe Day 2010 events - Screening of the LUX09 Cinema Prize finalist movies(03-05/05/2010) : As part of the activities organised to mark Europe Day 2010, the European Parliament Office in Valletta hosted a 3-day event at Europe House whereby the 3 finalist movies of the Lux09 Cinema Prize were screened.
      • Europe Day 2010 events - Debate at the House of Representatives(07/05/2010) : To underline the importance of the Year of Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion an interactive debate between school children and leading political figures was held at the House of Representatives, Valletta. 'Poverty and Social Exclusion - Do we take things for granted?' was the theme selected for this year's debate.
    • Europe Day 2010 events - EU Information Classes at Local Schools (03/05/2010) : In the run-up to Spring Day in Europe and Europe Day, The European Parliament Office in Malta organised a series of information classes on the significance of Europe Day at Chiswick House Primary School in Kappara, Malta. EPIO Head Julian Vassallo and Press Officer Massimo Farrugia addressed three information sessions targeting a total of 180 pupils aged 8 to 9, from six classes in Junior 4 and Junior 5.
    • AEGEE VALLETTA - CAREERS IN EUROPE : Graduations...what fun...buscades...lovely pictures with big white smiles with our funny hats and togas and a piece of paper rolled in our hands...ok festivities are finished...now what? Possibly one of the biggest challenges in a young adult's life is that of moving from student life to joining the work force. Hence, one has to study the different opportunities available really well. If this change involves also going to work abroad, then the number of changes one has to go through increase significantly. Yet, currently many students are asking questions about this opportunity. For this reason, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Schuman Declaration (09-05-50), on Friday 23rd April AEGEE Valletta organised a debate concerning opportunities to work abroad.
    • Front Against Censorship is Malta's nominee for Charlemagne Youth Prize 2010 : Front Kontra ċ-Ċensura (Front Against Censorship), a project submitted by a number of Maltese youth and student organisations, is among the finalists for this year's European Charlemagne Youth Prize. The Prize will be awarded in Aachen, Germany, on 11 May 2010.
    • EP Office dialogue Women in Public Life marks Women's Day 2010 : The Malta EP Office's activities marking Women's Day closed on Friday 16 April with a well-attended Public Dialogue on on "Women in Public life".The half-day event was organised in collaboration with the National Council of Women at the Europe House Conference Hall which was full to capacity with some late-comers having to stand.
    • St.Edward´s College Sixth Form students participate in EUROSCOLA : St. Edward's College, was one of the participating schools in the first run of this year's Euroscola day, and the only College which represented Malta. Seeing that Malta is such a small and relatively insular island, Maltese students cherish participating in international events such as this and the Edwardian Sixth Formers were no exception. Twenty four first year students from St Edward's IB Sixth Form were chosen to represent the school on the day.
    • Paid and Unpaid Traineeships at the European Parliament Office in Malta : Young people wishing to further enhance their knowledge of European Affairs are being invited to apply for paid and unpaid traineeships with the European Parliament Office in Malta. They would form part of a team based at Europe House in Valletta geared to explaining the role of the European Parliament and its impact on Maltese citizens.
    • Europe Day 2009 : Europe Day 2009 kicked off with the now traditional annual Football Festival organised by the European Parliament Office in Malta. This event was held at the Floriana Football Club where forty football nurseries took part in friendly non-competitive football.
    • European Parliament Journalism Prize 2009 : For the second time, the European Parliament Prize for Journalism will be awarded in 2009. It will be awarded to journalists who have covered major European issues or promoted a better understanding of the EU institutions and/or EU policies.
    • European Parliament Grants 2009 : Parliament plays an active and important role in drafting legislation: For example, on environmental protection, consumer rights, equal opportunities, transport, and the free movement of workers, capital, services and goods.Parliament also has joint power with the Council over the annual budget of the European Union.
    • Lisbon Treaty : The Treaty of Lisbon will define what the EU can and cannot do, and what means it can use. It will alter the structure of the EU's institutions and how they work. As a result, the EU will be more democratic and its core values will be better served.This new treaty is the result of negotiations between EU member countries in an intergovernmental conference, in which the Commission and Parliament were also involved.
    • Procedures for Malta to obtain its fully fledged Sixth MEP : In order dispel the incorrect impression given in a number of articles in the foreign and local press the EP Office would like to clarify the issue of the status of those persons elected to fill the extra seats in the European Parliament provided for in the Lisbon Treaty. In December 2008 the European Council declared that should the Lisbon Treaty be ratified the twelve relevant countries should receive the extra MEPs allotted to them in the Lisbon Treaty not at the next Elections in 2014 but during the 2009-2014 legislature, and if possible in 2010. The Lisbon Treaty will only enter into force if it is ratified by Ireland following a referendum in the autumn (probably in October) and is signed by the Presidents of Poland and the Czech Republic whose Parliaments have already ratified the Treaty.
